Mokume-gane jewellery with Lydia in Kos, Greece

Lydia Ioannidou makes and sells jewellery in her little shop: Lydia Design on Filita Street in the old town of Kos. Lydia initially studied structural engineering in the city of Larissa, but a love of creating with her hands led her to studying a Japanese metal working technique; Mokume-gane in Thessaloniki. Mokume-gane produces mixed-metal laminate with unique layered patterns. Lydia’s jewellery combines both this technique, as well as her engineering background and personal influences. In her shop, Lydia’s focus on intricate detail is not only evident in her pieces, but also the in the space itself; electricity cables – decorated with coloured paper and glue.
